Broccoli With Onion Cheese Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs fresh broccoli, cut into bite-sized flowerets
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups evaporated milk (or whole milk)
  • 1 cup shredded monterey jack cheese or 1 cup cheddar cheese
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions

  • 1 Steam broccoli until crisp-tender. Drain well. Place broccoli in shallow serving dish.
  • 2 While broccoli is cooking, melt butter in medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until tender, about 8 minutes.
  • 3 Stir in flour. Add milk; cook and stir until sauce comes to a boil for several minutes.
  • 4 Stir in cheese until it melts; add salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  • 5 Pour over hot broccoli and serve.
